Raised According to the Scriptures
“And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” — 1 Corinthians 15:4
Paul the Apostle summarizes the heart of the gospel: Christ died, was buried, and rose again. The resurrection is not an addition to the gospel, it is its vindication, its power, and its completion.
“That he was buried…” This detail confirms the reality of His death. Jesus Christ did not merely appear to die, He truly entered into death. The burial testifies that the cross was not symbolic, but final in human terms. Hope seemed sealed behind a stone.
“And that he rose again the third day…” Here is the turning point of all history. Death, which has claimed every human life, could not hold Him. The resurrection is not a metaphor for renewal—it is a decisive, bodily triumph over the grave. It declares that sin’s penalty has been satisfied and that death’s authority has been broken.
“According to the scriptures.” This phrase anchors the resurrection in the faithfulness of God’s revealed Word. What took place was not unexpected, it was foretold. From the promises woven through the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms, God had already declared His redemptive plan. The empty tomb is not only a miracle; it is fulfillment. God does exactly what He says He will do.
This truth reshapes everything. If Christ is risen, then our faith is not in vain, our hope is not misplaced, and our future is not uncertain. The resurrection assures us that life has overcome death, that righteousness has triumphed over sin, and that those who are in Christ will share in His victory.
The risen Christ is not merely a figure of the past, He is the living Lord who reigns even now. His resurrection power is at work in those who believe, calling them out of spiritual death into newness of life.
So today, stand in this unshakable truth: the grave is empty, the promise is fulfilled, and the victory is secure.
He is risen, and because He lives, so shall we.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the resurrection of Christ and the hope it secures. Help me to live in the power of His victory each day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
