Living on the Foundation of His Word
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." — Matthew 7:21
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." — Matthew 7:24
"The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." — Matthew 7:25
"But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand." — Matthew 7:26
Heart of the Message: Building a Life That Lasts
What is the foundation upon which you are building? Jesus’s words in Matthew 7 are a call to not only hear His Word but to obey it with a sincere heart.
It’s easy to say, "Lord, Lord," when life is comfortable, but the true test is whether our daily actions align with His commands. A house built on the rock, His Word and His love, stands firm through every storm. Conversely, a house built on sand, selfishness, fleeting pleasures, or self-reliance, will falter when storms come.
"If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also." — John 12:26
Living wisely and securely means doing the word, taking His teachings seriously, walking in obedience, and living out His love. That’s what makes our lives resilient and rooted in eternal truth.
Are your choices, words, and actions aligned with the teachings of Jesus? Make a commitment: "I will build my life on His Word, so that when the storms come, I will stand." Take time to read and meditate on Matthew 7:24-27, asking Him for strength to obey and build on the solid rock.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the firm foundation found in Your Word. Help me not only to hear Your teachings but to live them daily. Strengthen my resolve to build my life on Christ, the solid rock, that I may stand strong in every storm. Guide my decisions, root my heart in obedience, and reflect Your truth in all I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
