Perfect Counsel, Faithful Wonders
“O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” - Isaiah 25:1 (KJV)
Isaiah’s words rise as a song of worship in the midst of prophetic vision. He has seen both judgment and redemption, the shaking of nations and the promise of restoration. Yet his response is not fear, but exaltation. “O Lord, thou art my God.” Worship begins with personal acknowledgment. The sovereign Lord of history is not distant, He is covenantally near.
Isaiah resolves, “I will exalt thee.” Praise here is not spontaneous emotion alone, but deliberate devotion. It is a choice rooted in recognition of who God is and what He has done. Worship is not dependent upon favorable circumstances; it is grounded in the character of God.
“For thou hast done wonderful things.” The wonders of God are not random displays of power, but purposeful acts woven into His redemptive plan. From deliverance to judgment, from exile to restoration, God’s works reveal His sovereignty and mercy. What may appear chaotic to human eyes unfolds according to divine design.
Isaiah anchors his praise in God’s “counsels of old.” God’s plans are ancient, established before human history began. They are not reactive, but eternal. And those counsels are marked by “faithfulness and truth.” God’s purposes do not shift with time, nor do His promises falter. What He declares, He fulfills. What He promises, He keeps.
This verse invites us to trust God not only for present help, but for eternal purpose. When life feels uncertain, we remember that God’s counsel stands firm. His plans are not improvised; they are faithful and true.
Isaiah 25:1 calls us to worship grounded in theology. We praise not merely because we feel grateful, but because God’s character demands exaltation. His wonders reveal His wisdom; His counsel assures our hope.
Prayer:
Faithful Lord, You are my God. Help me exalt You for Your unchanging truth and steadfast purposes. Teach me to trust Your eternal counsel, even when I cannot see its fullness. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
