Faith That Speaks and Trusts God
“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” - Mark 11:23 (KJV)
Jesus speaks these words as a revelation of how faith relates to the power of God. The mountain He describes represents what appears immovable, overwhelming obstacles, entrenched fears, or circumstances beyond human strength. Christ does not deny the mountain’s reality; He confronts it with faith rooted in trust.
Biblical faith is not wishful thinking or verbal optimism. It is confidence grounded in the character and authority of God. When Jesus speaks of “saying” and “believing,” He is describing a heart aligned with God’s will, not a tongue attempting to command reality. Faith does not manipulate God; it submits to Him. True faith speaks because it first listens.
The command to “not doubt in his heart” exposes the true battleground. Doubt is not the presence of questions, but a divided trust, one foot resting on God’s promise and the other on fear. Faith, by contrast, rests fully on God’s faithfulness. It believes not because the outcome is visible, but because God is trustworthy.
This verse does not promise that believers can remove any mountain at will. Rather, it assures us that nothing God purposes to move is immovable when approached in faith. Mountains remain when they serve God’s refining work, and they move when their removal serves His glory. Faith accepts both outcomes, trusting the wisdom of God.
Mark 11:23 calls believers to examine not the size of their obstacle, but the direction of their trust. Faith speaks boldly, prays expectantly, and waits humbly. It rests in God’s authority, not its own certainty.
Faith does not deny the mountain, it trusts the God who stands above it.
Prayer:
Lord, align my heart with Your will. Where doubt divides my trust, teach me to rest fully in You. Give me faith that listens, speaks, and waits with confidence in Your power and wisdom. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
