Give Generously

"Give and it will be given to you. Good measure pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you." (Luke 6:38)

When I read this scripture, I picture a measuring cup of brown sugar. When you spoon it into the measure is it light and fluffy, but then you press it down and make room for much more...a PACKED cup of brown sugar is so much more than a loose cup of brown sugar.

In the same way that we pack brown sugar into a measuring cup, filling it generously, we must also give to others and God generously.

Think for a minute about the measure you are applying when giving of yourself to God and to others. Is this the amount you would like to come back to you?

If you look a little wider into the context of what Jesus is saying in Luke Chapter 6:37-42, he is explaining precisely what it means to be his disciple. Do not judge others but bless them and pray for them. Give to your enemies or persecutors and don't expect anything in return. Jesus tells us that ultimately, God will return to us more than we can ask for or imagine in eternity.

What can you do today to be a generous giver to those around you? What can you do today to honor God and show the love of Jesus to those who so desperately need it?

Whatever blessings and prayers you bestow upon others now, will be returned to you in eternity. What a beautiful promise that we have in Jesus.

I challenge you to fill your cup, pack it down, add even more, and give generously to others. Bless them, pray for them, and watch what God can do!

Jesus loves you and I love you too. Have a blessed day.
