The Beginning of Wisdom
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." - Proverbs 9:10
True wisdom starts with reverence and awe for God. The "fear of the Lord" isn’t about being afraid in a trembling way, but about recognizing His holiness, authority, and greatness; an attitude of humble respect and reverence. It’s the foundational step that opens our eyes to divine truth.
When we honor God, we acknowledge our dependence on Him as our source of all wisdom and understanding. It’s in His presence that we become wise, not just in knowledge, but in how we live our lives according to His will.
Why is this important?
Without the fear of the Lord, knowledge can become prideful or misguided. But with a reverent heart, seeking His guidance, we gain true insight that leads us to make right decisions, grow in faith, and walk in righteousness.
Reflection:
Today, take a moment to re-commit your heart to God. Seek His wisdom in all you do, trusting that as you honor Him, He’ll reveal truths that will shape your life. Cultivate a genuine awe of His greatness and a humble attitude to learn from Him.
Prayer:
Lord, I acknowledge that true wisdom begins with You. Help me to fear You with reverence and awe, to seek Your knowledge wholeheartedly. Open my eyes to Your truth and grant me understanding as I walk in Your ways. Fill my heart with humility and make me wise in Your sight. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
