Day 1 When Trust Is Broken in the House of God
“Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.” - Psalm 56:8–9 (KJV)
One of the deepest wounds a believer can experience is pain that originates within the church. The very place meant to be a refuge for the soul can sometimes become a source of confusion, betrayal, or disappointment.
Yet Scripture never hides this reality. David, the writer of Psalm 56, knew betrayal from people who should have been trustworthy. Still, David did not abandon God because people failed him.
Instead, he took his pain directly to the Lord.
God does not dismiss the tears of His people. Every tear shed in confusion, grief, or injustice is noticed by Him. While human leaders may misunderstand, misjudge, or mishandle situations, the Lord records every sorrow and every cry for justice.
Church hurt may shake our confidence in people, but it should never shake our confidence in God.
The church is composed of imperfect people, but the foundation of our faith is a perfect Savior.
Bring your hurt honestly before God instead of allowing it to push you away from Him.
Your pain is not invisible to the Lord.
Prayer:
Father, You see the wounds I carry. Help me bring my hurt to You rather than withdrawing from Your presence. Strengthen my faith so that my trust remains in You even when people fail me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
