The Promise of the Spirit
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” - Acts 1:8
Before ascending, Jesus gave His disciples a promise that would define the life of the Church: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…” This was not a suggestion or an optional experience, it was essential. The early disciples had walked with Christ, witnessed miracles, and heard divine teaching, yet Jesus still told them to wait. Why? Because knowledge alone cannot sustain the Christian life; only the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit can.
To live saturated in the Spirit begins with recognizing our insufficiency apart from Him. We cannot manufacture boldness, holiness, or endurance through discipline alone. The Spirit is not merely an accessory to faith; He is the empowering presence of God within us. When He fills us, He equips us to testify of Christ—not just with words, but with transformed lives.
Too often, we try to operate in our own strength, relying on personality, gifting, or experience. But Spirit-saturation calls us back to dependence. The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead now dwells in believers, enabling us to live beyond our natural capacity.
Will you live today striving in your own strength, or surrendered to His power? The promise still stands. The Spirit has come. The question is, are you yielding?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for the promise of the Holy Spirit. Forgive me for relying on my own strength. Fill me with Your power today so I may live boldly, love deeply, and witness faithfully. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
