Reflecting on the Kind of Person I Want to Be

“Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.” — 3 John 1:11

This verse speaks directly to my heart about the kind of person I want to be. It’s so easy to get caught up in my own habits, reactions, and choices: some good, some not so much. But this verse calls me to look beyond my circumstances and focus on my character.

When I think about imitating what is good, I recognize that it’s about choosing integrity, kindness, patience, and humility, values that reflect Christ in my daily life. It’s about being intentional in my actions and attitudes, especially in moments when it’s easier to act out of selfishness or frustration.

The reminder that "anyone who does what is good is from God" encourages me that genuine goodness is rooted in my relationship with Him. It’s not about trying harder on my own, but about aligning my heart with God's Spirit. As I do that, my actions begin to naturally reflect His goodness.

I realize that when I indulge in unkind words or selfish motives, it’s a sign I need to reconnect with Jesus, to see if I’ve drifted from His presence. Seeing God is about more than just claims of faith; it’s about living in a way that shows I’ve truly encountered His love.

Today, I want to be more mindful of my choices. I want to imitate what is good, remembering that my actions influence others and reflect my walk with Christ. I want my life to be a testimony that I have indeed seen God and am trying to mirror His goodness day by day.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to imitate what is good and not what is evil. Cleanse my heart of selfishness and anger, and fill me with Your love and kindness. Remind me that true goodness flows from knowing You and seeing You in my daily life. May my actions reveal Your character, and may I be a reflection of Your grace today and always. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
