Courage for Such a Time as This
“Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” — Esther 4:16
Esther’s boldness and unwavering courage in the face of life-altering danger is an inspiration to me. She was called for a divine purpose, to save her people, yet she knew the risks involved. Her words echo a heart that chooses obedience and trust over fear, even if it costs her everything.
In this moment, Esther teaches me that sometimes, God calls us to stand boldly for what is right, even when the odds are against us. Her willingness to obey God and trust in His plan is a powerful reminder that our courage can change lives, because obedience opens the door for God's power to move mightily.
Her declaration, “If I perish, I perish,” shows an inner strength rooted in faith, not in her own ability, but in God's divine plan. It’s a proclamation that true faith often requires risking comfort, security, or even life itself.
I ask God for that same spirit of boldness. To trust Him fully, to stand firm in my calling, and to be willing to go where He leads, even if it feels risky. Because when we step out in obedience, trusting God's plan, His power will be at work through us.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, give me the courage and faith of Esther. Help me to trust You completely, even when the path is uncertain or the risks seem great. Teach me to stand boldly for what is right, knowing that with You, all things are possible. If I face opposition or danger, remind me that You are my strength and refuge. Use my life to make a difference for Your kingdom. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
