The Greatest Gain Comes in Giving Up
“For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” — Matthew 16:25
The path of a life with true purpose begins with surrender. Jesus isn’t asking us to live a life of loss in the sense of deprivation, but rather to let go of our own plans, pride, and selfish ambitions and to truly follow Him.
Many times, we cling to what feels safe or familiar, our comfort zones, our reputation, or our possessions, thinking these are the keys to happiness. But Jesus calls us into a different kind of life: one where we seek His kingdom above all else, where we are willing to lay down our lives to gain something far greater.
In my own journey, I’ve learned that surrender isn’t easy. It requires trusting God beyond what my eyes can see, believing that His plan is better than my own. It’s choosing daily to say, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” It’s in those moments of surrender that I find abundant life, far beyond what the world offers.
This verse also reminds us that genuine fulfillment begins when we die to ourselves, our ego, our desires, to embrace the life God has called us to live. When we lose our old way of living, we gain His purpose, His peace, and eternal life.
Today, I encourage you to consider:
- Are there areas of your life where you need to let go?
- Are there priorities or worries that are holding you back from fully trusting Jesus?
Remember, in giving up, we often gain what matters most; His love, His peace, and His eternal life.
Prayer:
Lord, I surrender my plans, my fears, and my ego to You today. Help me to trust Your plan above my own, to lose my life in order to find it in You. Teach me to follow You wholeheartedly, knowing that in giving up, I gain everything You have prepared for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
