Be Present with Your Children: Show Them the Way
"And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." — Deuteronomy 6:6-7
We are called to be intentional in guiding the next generation, more than just providing for their needs, we must show them the way to Jesus. This means spending quality, purposeful time with our children, teaching them the truth of His Word with love and consistency.
In everyday life, we should speak His name early and often, so that when they begin to speak, “Jesus” is their first or favorite words. Read the Bible to them from the earliest age, and teach them how to love and honor God. When they know His Word, they will be better prepared to stand firm against the temptations and lies that will come their way.
If we do not invest this time, someone else will, and their words and values may not align with God’s truth. Idle moments are the enemy’s playground. So, stay purposeful, fill your children’s hearts with praise music, scripture, and wholesome media. Teach them to seek truth, defend their faith, and trust in God's Word when life is challenging.
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." — Proverbs 22:6
Make intentional time daily to read and talk about God’s Word with your children. Use mealtime, walks and bedtime, to teach them about Jesus and His love. Filter secular influences with praise, Scripture, and Christian content, guiding their minds and hearts toward righteousness. Pray together and declare God’s promises over their lives, to keep their eyes fixed on Jesus and their hearts full of His love.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of godly parents and Your Word, which guides us and keeps us safe. Bless the parents today. Help them to be intentional in raising children who know Your name and walk in Your truth. Strengthen their faith, fill their homes with Your love, and guide their steps. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
